The Season of Giving: Windermere for Kids 2018

On Saturday, over 250 Windermere Real Estate brokers and staff from six Eastside offices came together for the 17th year of Windermere for Kids.

The morning of the event, over 100 “little shoppers” between the ages of 7 and 12 were provided with a gift card to spend at Target for their holiday shopping. Our brokers helped each child select special gifts for their family members and, as an added treat, surprised the little shoppers with a gift for themselves!

Six wrapping stations were each powered by 15 to 20 brokers who wrapped and tagged each purchase. While the children waited, they rejoined their families to enjoy crafts, treats and photos with Santa.

Over the last 20 years, Windermere Real Estate/East, Inc. has helped deliver the holiday spirit to over 1,700 deserving families on the Eastside. It’s no wonder that this event has been a favorite for our brokers, who choose to support Windermere for Kids over having a company holiday party.

Helping Students Realize Their Dreams Through Scholarship Programs

The Windermere Foundation has raised $1,611,802 so far this year, bringing the total amount raised by the Foundation to over $37 million since 1989. Through the third quarter of 2018, $1,214,576 has been donated to local non-profits and charity organizations that provide services to low-income and homeless families.

Through donations from Windermere agents, staff, franchise owners, and the community, the Windermere Foundation has been able to donate to local scholarship programs that help students in need realize their dreams of furthering their education. The following are examples of two programs that have benefitted from Windermere Foundation donations this year.

Seattle Central College Foundation Scholarship Program

Each Windermere office raises its own funds and has a Windermere Foundation account that it can use to make donations to organizations in their local communities. This fall, the Windermere Seattle-Capitol Hill office generously donated to the Seattle Central College Foundation’s scholarship program, which is helping nearly 500 students attend the college this year, relieved of financial stress, and encouraging them to stay committed to their education.

Tammara S., the recipient of the Windermere Real Estate/Capitol Hill Scholarship, said,

“I am honored to be the recipient of this scholarship… Attending school with an already tight budget was a hard decision to make. This scholarship will ease the stress of extra debt and the fear of having to choose anything over my education. Thank you, I appreciate your confidence in me and willingness to contribute to my future education.”

University of Washington Certificate Scholarship Program

The Windermere Foundation general fund also made a donation to support the University of Washington Certificate Scholarship program. With the help of UW Certificate Scholarships and the Windermere Foundation, 12 local adults living on low incomes were able to start classes at the University of Washington this fall. These are just a few of the recipients:

Loree, who is studying Fundraising Management: A stay-at-home mom and active school volunteer/PTA fundraiser. Sadly, Loree recently lost her husband to cancer and has become her family’s primary provider. The certificate program will help her re-enter the workforce.

“The scholarship will provide me the freedom to walk the path of discovery as I redefine who I am in this second phase of my life.”

Matthew, who is studying Wetland Science and Management: A single dad of a 6-year-old, Matthew juggles childcare with full-time work supervising Washington Conservation Corps crews in the King Conservation District. Struggling to pay rent in Seattle, his aim is to move into a better paid job, with a schedule that better lines up with his daughter’s

“… and a chance to improve the stability of our natural systems in the face of overwhelming pressures like climate change.”

Syed, who is studying Data Analytics: Syed moved to the U.S. from Pakistan two years ago with a master’s degree and work experience in statistics. He is having great difficulty finding a job in his field because he has no local work experience or contacts. He is currently working at Walmart as a cashier to support his wife and 1-year-old son.

“Completing this program will benefit me tremendously and help me to begin my profession, as a data analyst, in the U.S.”

Tobi, who is studying Project Management: Tobi works as a corporate relations coordinator at one of the largest food banks in King County, based in South Seattle. She wants to expand her skillset and go on to lead social impact and corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs that ensure the advancement of underrepresented communities.

“The skills I learn in this program will equip me to bring more to the table in this work.”

The Windermere Foundation is proud to support wonderful programs such as these that provide continuing education scholarships to those in need. Generous donations to the Windermere Foundation over the years have allowed the Foundation and our Windermere offices to continue to support local non-profits.

The Seahawks and Windermere Return for Another Season to #TackleHomelessness

All of us at Windermere are very excited to kick-off our third season as the Official Real Estate Company of the Seattle Seahawks!

Once again, our #tacklehomelessness campaign is front-and-center, with the Windermere Foundation donating $100 for every Seahawks home-game defensive tackle to YouthCare, a Seattle-based non-profit organization that has been providing services and support to homeless youth for more than 40 years. During the past two seasons, the Seahawks have helped us raise $66,800 through our #tacklehomelessness campaign, and this year we are looking forward to raising even more money – and awareness – for this important cause.

Our partnership with the Seahawks and YouthCare fits perfectly with the mission of the Windermere Foundation which is to support low-income and homeless families in the communities where we have offices. Through the #tacklehomelessness campaign, we hope to be able to do even more.

Community Service Day 2018

On Friday, June 8th our Windermere offices closed their doors for our annual Community Service Day. Since 1984, Windermere has dedicated a day to giving back to the community and assisting with neighborhood improvement initiatives.

We’re proud to share these projects completed by our East, Inc. offices:

Jubilee Reach

The Bellevue and Bellevue West offices teamed up to lend a hand at Jubilee REACH. This local organization supports the social and emotional needs of children and their families through mentoring, tutoring, and after-school clubs and sports programs within Bellevue public schools. Our Windermere team helped with a variety of maintenance tasks including painting doors and benches, landscaping, replacing lights, washing windows, repainting the basketball court, pressure washing walkways and play sets, and more. We are proud of our offices’ hard work at this site, and we are grateful to Jubilee REACH for their important contributions to our community and for letting us be a part of their mission!

Kids Without Borders

Windermere Redmond CSD 2018

Our Redmond office assisted Bellevue-based Kids Without Borders, an organization founded by Son Michael Pham, who used his experience as a refugee from Vietnam as a catalyst to serve children in our local and international communities with the vision of “all kids, one world.” Agents and staff spent the day with Son Michael Pham at the KWB storage units where they sorted and packed clothing for distribution to families in need. This was a great opportunity for us to return some of the generosity this organization has put into our global community!

Heritage Park

Windermere Yarrow Bay CSD 2018

Yarrow Bay agents and staff rolled up their sleeves, slipped on their gardening gloves, and grabbed shears and rakes to landscape and remove invasive plants at Heritage Park near downtown Kirkland. The park offered an incredible view of the Seattle skyline across Lake Washington as they worked – a reminder of how lucky we are to be able to enjoy the serenity of nature while still being close to the bustling city. We were happy to do our part to beautify and help preserve part of what makes our community so special!

Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic

Windermere Bellevue South CSD 2018

Our Bellevue South office gave back by partnering with Seattle Children’s Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic, which strives to promote quality pediatric care, family advocacy, health collaboration, mentoring, and education in a culturally relevant context. Our agents and staff helped with landscaping and mulching the clinic grounds, facilitating the book drive, and working on art projects with kids at the clinic. As an added bonus, they had the chance to listen to talks by a pediatrician and Lenny Wilkens, former NBA player and coach and current children’s healthcare advocate. We are thankful to OBCC for welcoming and inspiring us on Community Service Day and every day!

Cougar Mountain Zoo

Windermere Issaquah CSD 2018

Our Issaquah office headed to the Cougar Mountain Zoo in Issaquah to help with their mission to increase the understanding and appreciation of the Earth’s wildlife and the role of humanity in nature through education, conservation, propagation, and exhibition – and enjoy the company of some of its animal inhabitants. A few of their projects included clearing brush, painting benches, and habitat maintenance/wall building. This was one of the Issaquah office’s favorite Community Service Day projects, and we loved seeing them experience the zoo in a whole new way that reminded us of all of the work that goes into maintaining these neighborhood treasures!

Windermere Foundation Nears $36 Million in Total Donations Raised!

Thanks to the generosity of Windermere agents and the community, the Windermere Foundation collected over $330,000 in donations during the first quarter of 2018. Individual contributions and fundraisers accounted for 58 percent of the donations, while 42 percent came from donations through Windermere agent commissions. So far, we have raised a total of $35,869,961 in donations since 1989 when the Windermere Foundation was started.

Each Windermere office has its own Windermere Foundation fund account that they use to make donations to organizations in their local communities. In the first quarter of 2018, a total of $521,916 was disbursed to non-profit organizations dedicated to providing services to low-income and homeless families throughout the Western U.S.

One organization that has been the recipient of Windermere Foundation funds is Youthnet, serving Skagit, Whatcom, Snohomish, Island, and San Juan Counties in Washington State. Youthnet provides caring and supportive educational and social services to youth and families to help them attain a productive and successful life.

The Windermere Real Estate/Skagit Valley office in Mount Vernon, Washington has donated a total of $1,500 to Youthnet since 2015. Their support has continued to make a difference to the children, youth, and families served.

Donations have helped Youthnet support clients like Tracey and Tom, who are struggling to care for their three young children because of their inability to find and keep jobs due to mental health issues. Support from donors such as Windermere allows Tracey and Tom to receive resources, parenting support, and guidance to keep Sarah, Suzie and Jimmy well-cared-for.  Funding also helps clients like Jennifer, who is finishing high school this year and thinking about going to college. She would be the first one in her family to achieve this goal.
